BEST CANADIAN ROCKIES HIKES

HA LING PEAK - Canmore, Canada
The Ha Ling Peak Summit hike is an old staple and one of my favourite Canadian rockies hikes because it was one of the first I ever did. You will start in a forest with steep switchbacks and climb up until the trees have cleared and you are at the base of the peak's summit. Though you gain a relatively high elevation (2500ft) and need to navigate loose rock towards the end, the 3.5 mile trail is overall well maintained.
Ha ling is a popular trail, especially on weekends, so you don't need to be worried about bear encounters. Though, if you prefer to have the mountain all to yourself you might want to consider getting there early.
MT. YAMNUSKA - Kananaskis, Canada
Yamnuska ridge is a moderate hike in Kananaskis which opens up from a wooded path to a rocky scramble up to a false summit. The trail continues on to a more advanced section you must traverse to reach the actual summit (a helmet and climbing gear is recommended). I've done Yamnuska many times and have only ever stopped at the false summit.
PEYTO PEAK - Alberta, Canada
Another one of my favourite Canadian rockies hikes! Peyto lake is a short drive farther from Lake Louise and is equally as beautiful with its mesmerizing turquoise waters. Lose the tourists at the look out deck and take the trail that wraps behind the lake... The vast beauty of the mountains and lake from up above will make up for the extra distance!!
CHESTER LAKE – Alberta, Canada
Chester lake is a 6 mile loop located in the Peter Lougheed Provincial Park. You can either walk or snow shoe up to the lake, which is a hidden gem surrounded by stunning mountain peaks! Rest from the 1300 ft elevation gain by the lake and enjoy the views. (Pro tip: pack a lunch and eat at the top).
BIG BEEHIVE – Alberta, Canada
A visit to the iconic Lake Louise is quintessential for any trip to the Canadian Rocky Mountains! But did you know you can actually hike back behind the lake to get a better view and avoid the crowds? The 6+ mile beehive trail will take you up and away to epic views above the lake and Chateau.
RAWSON LAKE – Alberta, Canada
Rawson lake is a 4.5 mile hike along a maintained trail that quickly gains elevation to nearly 1800 ft. Once you make it up to the lake, which is sheltered amidst the mountains, it is well worth the effort. Enjoy a quiet lunch or a quick (and cold) dip in the clear water!
